What is CU?
The Christian Union is a student organisation that seeks to help students grow in faith and spiritual maturity, and live as disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ in the world today. We desire to encourage one another in our Christian lives and share the good news of Jesus with other students, so that they too may have the opportunity to know Jesus and experience a relationship with Him. We have a vision to see hearts and lives changed by God.
The Christian unions across the UK and all over the world can be distinguished by three things. Firstly they are committed to the gospel. The Gospel (which is summarised by the doctrinal basis) forms the core convictions of a CUs life and ministry. The Gospel is the basis of our unity, the foundation of our ministry, the content of our message and the fuel for our evangelism. Secondly they're student led; All Christian Unions are committed to student leadership as a principle. Students really are the best placed to reach other students for Christ. Finally CUs are inter-denominational; this means that CUs are made up of students 'sent' out from the local church. Our members come from various backgrounds, but we are all committed to working together in gospel unity.
Our CU meets every Tuesday evening from 7:30pm - 8:45pm in HLT3. During this time we have a worship session, a talk from someone who comes from a local church in Northampton and we have a time of prayer. Last term we concentrated on 1 and 2 Peter. This term we are looking at Philippians and different ways to conduct CU meetings. We also have evangelistic events throughout the terms and next term includes a BBQ, quiz night and a fun day.
You may ask why do we do what we do but here are Bible verses that commands us to go out and spread God's word,
- Jesus taught that he is the only way to God the Father (John 14:6).
- The good news about Jesus is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes (Romans 1:16).
- Jesus commands us to go and tell others this good news (Mark 16:15).
- People can't believe in Jesus unless someone tells them about him (Romans 10:14).
- There is a coming judgement where God will punish those who do not know and follow the Lord Jesus Christ. (2 Thessolonians 1:8).
